Now, in place of that rubble stood undiscriminating concrete walls with sturdy, unfeeling facets. Flickering lookout towers dotted the top of the wall like so many fireflies shimmering in the night air. Manned by the dutiful members of the Brave Militia, each of these little aeries came equipped with its own cannon. This served as an excellent deterrent to any would-be marauders, and so Lanta was regarded as a save haven by the outside world.”
